Wedding FAQs

My photographic style is categorized as Fine-Art Photography.  Fine art photography is best described by Jose Villa & Jeff Kent as “a stylized representation of their clients’ special day in carefully shaped imagery.” It goes far beyond the laissez-faire approach of photojournalism and creates a more consciously influenced collection of images.

The closer to perfect I can get in-camera, the better.  I would much rather make triple sure my exposure is dialed in than labor through thousands of image corrections. I try to keep my photos simple and elegant, letting the subject and composition tell a story.  Of course, if there is something specific that you want, I am willing to work with you.

It is your wedding; therefore I will meet with you multiple times prior to the event to make sure that all the shots you’ve been dreaming since you were a little girl won’t be forgotten.

When you book me for your wedding, that’s exactly what you get.  Depending on the scale and package you choose, I might bring along a second shooter or an assistant.  Either way, I will always be the primary photographer on the job.

I only commit to one wedding per weekend so that I can give you my undivided attention.

I shoot mostly digital with a Canon camera and assorted lenses. If the mood is right, I will sometimes shoot in medium format film.  I always travel with a backup camera for different styles of pictures and for the assurance of the photographer and the client.

On your 1 year anniversary, you will receive a DVD of high resolution images, with full rights.  I do this so that you and your guests have the opportunity to order lab quality prints through my client site.  If you invest in the photographer, shouldn’t you invest in the final product as well.

I always travel with a backup camera for different styles of pictures and for the assurance of the photographer and the client.

The quality of your images is the most important to me. I am happy for others to take photos although if I feel that it is interfering with the quality of your photos, I will politely ask them to pause momentarily.

Each package states the number of hours included. Additional hourly rates will be agreed upon prior to the wedding day.

I will be dressed professionally in dark clothing as to blend in during the ceremony and reception.

Your online image gallery will be available approximately 2-4 weeks after your wedding.

I only offer high-quality, custom designed albums.  In my opinion, it’s the best way to re-tell the story of your wedding day in all its detail. There is a description of the albums I offer in the Albums page.

You will have the opportunity to choose the photos you would like in your album and I will personally compose your pages to best tell the story of your wedding day.  I will never print a final album without your approval, so you can rest assured that in the end you will be happy with your album.

I like to meet and communicate with all of my clients beforehand so that I can be as discrete as possible on the day of your wedding. I like to have a contact person to go to (mother, bridesmaid, family member) if extra communication is necessary.

Jose Maestas Photography was born out of a love for art, design, and creativity. I love to tell the story of wedding days and produce imagery, books, and memories that are authentically beautiful. I am not simply looking for one perfect shot, but a body of work that captures the moments that might otherwise have been lost.

We will meet prior to the wedding day to go over necessary information.

Anything within 45 miles of Thousand Oaks is included in the price. Contact me with your location and we will come up with a reasonable travel budget.

I always visit every wedding site in advance so that I am comfortable with the layout. I try to visit at the same time of day as well, so I can have a better idea of what the lighting will be. I like to plan ahead for the wedding photos as much as possible.

Each package specifies a certain number of hours we will shoot. When we meet to discuss specifics, we will define a schedule.

I have no problem working out a custom package that has everything you want and nothing you don’t. If you do not see a package that fits your needs, please contact me to design the perfect package for you.

Most of our packages include engagement photos. If the one you choose does not, you can purchase an engagement session separately.

Basic color adjustment and minor spot corrections are included in each package price.

Your online image gallery will be available in approximately 2-4 weeks after your wedding. I will send you instructions via email on how to view and purchase them. You will then choose the album photos and we can get started on your album.

You will receive a written contract once we have your deposit (50% of total payment).

50% of the total is due when you choose to book me for your wedding/event. This will secure the date and ensure that I will not book anything else on that weekend. The deposit is non-refundable. The remaining 50% is due seven days prior to the wedding. If necessary, we can work out a payment plan, but payment must be made in full seven days prior to the wedding

If the you need to cancel, the deposit (50% of the total payment) is non-refundable. It is however transferrable and that amount may be used towards any other photography services that I offer.
